From a target grade to a sustainable plan

Editorial team · Reviewed 20 October 2026

A calculator can show the grade you need, but it cannot study for you. Its value comes from turning the figure into observable actions and adjusting the plan with real feedback.

Start with the rules

Collect dates, syllabus, format and marking criteria. Confirm each assessment weight and any minimum grade. A wrong weight creates a wrong target. Do not build your plan on classroom rumours.

Run a short diagnostic

Answer questions or solve exercises without notes. Classify errors: concept, procedure, memory or timing. Allocate more sessions to recurring weaknesses; rereading everything equally can conceal gaps.

Split work and leave a buffer

Choose concrete topics and blocks that fit your actual schedule. Reserve time for review, rest and disruption. If sessions consistently overrun, reduce their scope or change the timetable instead of accumulating impossible study debt.

Test retrieval and application

Explain an idea without looking, solve a new problem and mark it using exam criteria. Spread reviews across several days. Retrieval practice and spacing are researched strategies; there is no universally perfect timetable.

Recalculate without obsession

A new grade changes the scenario, not your personal worth. Update the average and choose a concrete action that improves preparation. If the required score exceeds ten, consider real options: resits, another sitting or an alternative goal.
